14-16 AD. and later, Augustus, Rome mint, moneyer As type, countermarked 14-41 AD. in Germania Inferior, Martini Pangerl collection 43.
Augustus, Rome mint, moneyer As type, ca. 14-16 AD., countermarked 14-41 AD. in Germania Inferior,
Æ As (25-26 mm / 7,36 g),
Obv.: [...] , head of Augustus facing right.
Rev.: [...] , legend around large S C, countermark "CAESAR" in ligature.
Martini Pangerl collection 43 .
Countermark "CAESAR" in ligature, mostly on Augustus AEs, suggested to stand for Caesar Germanicus, but maybe also for Caligula or Tiberius himself ? From Germania Inferior. A countermark on a Drusus Minor As, minted in 22/23 AD, making the attribution to Germanicus very unlikely.
