Sir Joseph Banks, 1st Baronet, Order of the Bath, President of the Royal Society (13 February 1743 – 19 June 1820) was an English naturalist, botanist and patron of the natural sciences. He took part in Captain James Cook's first great voyage (1768–1771). Banks is credited with the introduction to the Western world of eucalyptus, acacia, mimosa, and the genus named after him, Banksia. Approximately 80 species of plants bear Banks's name. Banks was also the leading founder of the African Association, a British organization dedicated to the exploration of Africa, and a member of the Society of Dilettanti, which helped to establish the Royal Academy.

Garboldisham is a village and civil parish, part of Guiltcross (hundred) in the Breckland district, in Norfolk, England, near the boundary with Suffolk. In the 2001 census the parish had a population of 721. D Mills (2003) says it was a 'homestead or village of a man called GÇ£rbald'. It appeared in the Domesday Book (1086) as Gerboldesham. The traditional view of Gaerbold is that it's an Old English name, i.e. homestead of Garbold. Others argue it has a Viking origin with Garbold being a famous Viking.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) was founded in 1804 in London, England as the Horticultural Society of London, and gained its present name in a Royal Charter granted in 1861 by Prince Albert. It is a charity and exists to promote gardening and horticulture in Britain and Europe. This is done through a series of flower shows and through many model gardens that are open to the public.
