79 AD., Titus, Rome mint, Denarius, RIC II 34 var.
Titus, Rome mint, 1st July - Dec. 79 AD.,
Denarius (19-20 mm / 2,95 g), silver, axes coin alignment ↑↓ (ca. 180°),
Obv.: IMP TITVS CAES VESPASIAN AVG P M. , his laureate head facing right.
Rev.: TR P VIIII IMP XIIII COS VII P P , Venus, seen half from behind, naked except for drapery around legs, standing right, left elbow on short column, holding helmet in her extended right and a long transverse scepter (or spear) in her left.
RIC II (new) 34 ; RIC II (old) 9 ; Coh. 268 ; BMC 9-10 ; BN 9 ; RSC 268 .
New RIC II has a footnote that a die variety exists with knobs on both ends of whar Venus is holding in her left. That should be a scepter instead of a spear. This one seems to be more like a spear.
