Constans, Arelate (Arles) mint, officina 2, 348-350 AD., 
Æ3 (Maiorina?, Centenionalis?) (19-20 mm / 3,48 g), 
Obv.: D N CONSTA - NS P F AVG , pearl(?)-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Constans left, holding globe in right hand.
Rev.: FEL TEMP REPAR - ATIO / S AR[L] , helmeted soldier, advancing right, head left, spear in left hand; with right hand, leading small bare-headed barbarian from hut beneath tree. Spear points upwards, it´s butt between the soldier and the barbarian.

In AD. 342 - under Constans - the Franks were taken over the Rhine and settled in Toxandria (a region between the Meuse and the Scheldt rivers in the Netherlands and Belgium). This was a peaceful act done by negotiations and the Franks had to fight for the Romans.

"In that market, it's common to come across variations from the RIC tables from the eastern mints, but much less so from the western ones.  In fact it's not that easy to find even the listed coins from Arelate - they are all graded R2 or R3  - but they do appear now and then."
