Stobi in Macedonia, 161-180 AD., Marcus Aurelius, Æ26, unlisted reverse type?
Stobi in Macedonia, Marcus Aurelius, 161-180 AD.,
Æ 25 (25-26 mm / 12,46 g),
Obv.: IMP M AVP ANTONINVS , radiate, draped bust of Marcus Aurelius right, seen from behind.
Rev.: ... - STOB , Tyche standing, wearing mural crown, head left, holding [patera or Nike] and scepter, two fishes in fields on either side (the left looking like a sturgeon species), between reclining figures of Axios and Erigon rivers (river gods), holding reed.
Josifovski 72 (V1, R1) ; AMNG III - (cf. 112, 5 Trajan; 114, 16 Geta - all without fishes) ; cf. Moushmov 6535 (without fishes) .

Tom White: "Josifovski knew of only one example of this coin from a private collection. This one is in much better condition. It is Josif 72 (V1, R1). His description includes: "Tyche with a corona muralis, in a short chiton and boots with a chlamida over her left should, standing ... forward, head left, in her right hand holds a patera, and in her left a scepter. At her feet, are Axios and Erigon, naked to their waists, above deities hydrias from whom water is flowing, no reeds visible."

Josifovski has no mention of fish in any of the Axios and Erigon reverse types. Perhaps these are the hydrias above the river gods heads?
It is a rare coin and possibly the best known specimen.
