Die Technische Universität Wien (kurz TU Wien) ist die Technische Universität in der österreichischen Hauptstadt Wien. Die heutige Technische Universität wurde 1815 als k. k. polytechnisches Institut von Kaiser Franz I. von Österreich mit dem Ziel gegründet, Ingenieure für das Militär, Bergbau- und Bauingenieure auszubilden. Erster Direktor war Johann Joseph von Prechtl (* 16. November 1778 in Bischofsheim, Deutschland; † 28. Oktober 1854 in Wien), ein österreichischer Technologe deutscher Herkunft.

Vienna University of Technology (German: Technische Universität Wien) is one of the major universities in Vienna, the capital of Austria. Founded in 1815 as the "Imperial-Royal Polytechnic Institute" (k. k. Polytechnisches Institut), it currently has about 26,200 students (19% foreign students/30% women), 8 faculties and about 4,000 staff members (1,800 academic). The university's teaching and research is focused on engineering and natural science.
