Fath Shah or Fah Shah, took the throne of Kashmir in 1486. He lost it to Muhammed Shah and others repeatedly, but gained it back in 1505 with the help of Musa Rayna. Muhammed Shah regained the throne in 1516 but Fath soon after retook it.
Fath Shah alternated power with Muhammad shah until 1517 AD. He had three reigns between 892 AH and 923 AH. The date 874 on his coins is so 'fixed' that it is not even in his reign periods.
First reign 1487-1499 AD
Second reign 1505-1514 AD
Third reign 1515-1517 AD

Most examples of this type either have no mark to right of 'Fath' (like this one) or this part of the die is off the flan. One variety has a large dot to right of 'Fath'. Other similar varieties have a cross, an arrow pointing downwards, or the arabic letter 'He' in this position. These varieties are all slightly scarce. The reverse has the date 874 AH crudely written in Arabic, but it is a fixed date for all 3 reigns of this ruler, who first ascended the throne in 892AH (=1487 AD) and died in 1517 AD. A less common variety has an 'x' to right of the Sultan's name - other varieties are known with other symbols, but the meaning of these symbols is not known.
