Halle (Saale) is a city in the southern part of the German state Saxony-Anhalt.
Halle is an economic and educational center in central-eastern Germany. The University of Halle-Wittenberg is the largest university in Saxony-Anhalt and one of the oldest universities in Germany, and a nurturing ground for the local startup ecosystem. Together with Leipzig, Halle is at the heart of the Central German Metropolitan Region.

George Frideric (or Frederick) Handel (23 February 1685 (O.S.) [(N.S.) 5 March] – 14 April 1759) was a German, later British, baroque composer who spent the bulk of his career in London, becoming well known for his operas, oratorios, anthems, and organ concertos. Handel received important training in Halle and worked as a composer in Hamburg and Italy before settling in London in 1712; he became a naturalised British subject in 1727. He was strongly influenced both by the great composers of the Italian Baroque and by the middle-German polyphonic choral tradition. Handel was born in 1685 in Halle-on-Saal, Duchy of Magdeburg, to Georg Händel and Dorothea Taust.
Das Händel-Denkmal in Halle (Saale) ist das einzige sich in Deutschland befindende Denkmal zu Ehren des deutsch-britischen Barockkomponisten Georg Friedrich Händel. Es wurde dort 1859 anlässlich der Gedenkveranstaltungen zum 100. Todestag des Künstlers mit einer großartigen Gemeinschaftsaktion zwischen Deutschen und Briten verwirklicht.
Außerhalb Deutschlands sind in London die beiden Händel-Denkmäler von Roubiliac (Händel-Denkmal für die Vauxhall Gardens von 1738 und Händels Grabdenkmal in der Westminster Abbey) sowie in Paris das Händel-Denkmal im Eingangsfoyer der Opéra Garnier bekannt.

Der Rote Turm ist Teil des Wahrzeichens der Stadt Halle (Saale). Dieses bildet er gemeinsam mit den vier Türmen der Marktkirche Unser Lieben Frauen. Halle wird wegen der markanten Silhouette dieser beiden Bauten auch oft als Stadt der Fünf Türme bezeichnet. Der Turm brannte am 16. April 1945 durch Artilleriebeschuss aus und verlor seinen charakteristischen Turmhelm. Bis auf die Turmumbauung wurde er wiederhergestellt.
