Britannicus (Francis Jarman) :
"Picking up another of these little coins from a rummage tray recently led me to look at them again. I had previously put them on the "Gaul/Germany" tray, with an attribution to "The Treveri (?)". However, there is a more recent attribution of the series to the Remi, minting in Durocortorum Remorum (= Reims), by the French archaeologist and numismatist J.-M. Doyen in Archéologie urbaine à Reims 7 (2008).
Reviewing Doyen's book in the journal Britannia (The Society for the Promotion of Roman Studies), vol. 43, 2012, Laurent Popovitch of the Universite de Bourgogne in Dijon praised "the superbly detailed study (metrology, style and prototypes, epigraphy, distribution maps) of the Romano-Gaulish provincial bronzes in the names of Germanus Indutilli l. (RPC 506) and Augustus, bull butting r. (RPC 509). These small Augustan coins are very common in north and east France but have never been well dated and attributed (Lyons, Trier?). D. brings forward convincing arguments to demonstrate that these leaded brass semisses were struck in Reims as small change for the province of Gallia Belgica and that the series Augustus, bull butting r. (c. 12-8 B.C.) closely followed the Germanus Indutilli l. series (c. 19-12 B.C.)."
