Law of July 31st, 1879 : law which creates the "State control" over Coins, ancestor of the "Direction of currencies and medals", under the authority of the Minister in charge of the finances, with for mission the direction, the execution and the control of the coin.
World Fair of 1889: The Exhibition was held in Paris from 6 May to 31 October 1889 on the hundredth anniversary of the French Revolution and was most notable for the opening of the Eiffel Tower. It covered almost a square kilometre with more than 61,000 exhibitors and had more than 28 million visitors.
