The Cottonera Gate, also known as Notre Dame Gate was built in 1675 by Grand Master Fra Nicola Cottoner as the principal gate into Cottonera - 9km of continuous fortified trace that encircles the three cities. Notre Dame Gate, the main gate of the Cottonera Lines, is located in Birgu. Built in 1675 in the Baroque style, currently used as the headquarters of the heritage organization Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna.
