Obv.: REPUBLICA MEXICANA , eagle with snake in beak on cactus, wings spread, half wreath below; punchmarks below eagle´s left wing. 
Rev.: LIBERTAD / 8 R. Zs. 1886. J. S. 10 Ds. 20 Gs. , abbreviations for: value and denomination . mint . year . assayer's initials . purity of silver (12 dineros = .999 Silver, 24 Granos = 1 Dineros, so 10Ds20Gs = 0.902777 Silver). below cap with rays; three punchmarks: squre pattern above central ray, on cap (a Z with horizontal line), and a half circle of rays above Z.

the legend of Tenochtitlan - how Mexico City was founded: As the Mexica, a small Mid-Mexican tribe were chased from their grounds, they had to look for new space. Their most important god, Huitzilopochtli, told the tribe they must build their new town on the place where they should find an eagle on a cactus, eating a snake. They found the place in the marshes of Lake Texcoco. The Mexica became the Aztecs and Tenochtitlan turned into Mexico City.
