Ake-Ptolemais in Phoenicia, 215-217 AD., Caracalla, Tetradrachm, cf. Prieur 1579-80.
Ake-(Akko-)Ptolemais in Phoenicia (?), Caracalla, struck 215-217 AD.,
Tetradrachm (ø 26-28 mm / 11,07 g), billon, axes medal alignment ↑↑ (ca. 0°),
Obv.: [AV]T KAI AN - TWNINOC CE[B] , his laureate head right, slight drapery on far shoulder.
Rev.: ΔHMAPX ЄΞ YΠATOC TO Δ / I , eagle standing left on grain ear, head left, wings spread, holding wreath in beak, I below grain ear.
cf. Prieur 1579-80 (Cyprus) .
Prieur admits that the attribution of these grain ear issues to Cyrpus is speculative. As they aren't found in Cyprus it seems to be unlikely that they were minted there. The mint of Akko has been suggested by David Hendin.
