Glücksburg (Danish: Lyksborg) is a small town northeast of Flensburg in the district Schleswig-Flensburg, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany and is the northernmost town in Germany. It is situated on the south side of the Flensborg Fjord, an inlet of the Baltic Sea, approx. 10 km northeast of Flensburg. The town was originally the home of the family Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (or simply Glücksburg), since 1863 the royal family of Denmark and since 1905 of Norway.

Glücksburg Castle (German: Schloss Glücksburg, Danish: Lyksborg Slot) is a water castle (Wasserschloss), on the Flensburg Fjord in the town of Glücksburg, Germany. It is one of the most important Renaissance castles in northern Europe. It is the seat of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg and was also used by the Danish kings. The castle is now a museum, and is no longer inhabited by the ducal family. It is owned by a foundation, which is headed by Christoph, Prince of Schleswig-Holstein, the current titular duke and head of the House of Glücksburg and House of Oldenburg.
The castle was built from 1582 to 1587 by Nikolaus Karies for John II, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg (1545-1622) at the site of the former Cistercian monastery Ryd Abbey;[3] the monastery's building material was partly reused in the castle. The grounds of Ryd Abbey were then flooded to create a large pond almost entirely surrounding the castle.
