Athens in Attica, modern Tetradrachm Replica, ca. 2000-2020 AD., engraver Petr Sousek, Antiquanova production.
Attica, Athens, Czech coin replica maker Antiquanova, engraver Petr Sousek, ca. 2000-2020 AD., original models from 460-404 BC.,
Tetradrachm Replica (22-23 mm / 8,14 g), silver(?), axis about medal alignment ?? (ca. 340°), filed edge, plai areas at edge,
Obv.: head of Athena right, archaic almond shaped eye, wearing crested Attic helmet.
Rev.: A?E , owl standing right, head facing, pellet in center of forehead; prong tail, to left olive twig with two leaves and a berry, crescent, all within incuse square. Engraver´s letter stylized “S” in lower right field.
 .

Original coins weight more than 16 gr.
This high-quality pressed replica, made of .999 silver, is from the Czech coin replica maker Antiquanova. An S countermark, for the engraver Petr Sousek, appears either to the right of the owl's legs, as on this specimen, or under the owl's tail feathers. This replica also copies an Early Classical Owl, Sear 2521. Antiquanova is one of the finest replica makers in the world, but this isn't one of its finest pieces, with Athena's helmet crest off the flan, too much empty space in front of Athena, and both Athena and her owl rendered unaesthetically.
Antiquanova replicas struck with modern dies (the style is far from the original type) exist in silver (marked with S) or tin (not marked). This actually a cast copy of a not marked Antiquanova tin replica. It is a cast fake made with a struck replica. The Antiquanova replicas cost only $7.50 each.
The engraver who does their dies is Petr Sousek, thus the stylized “S”. Sousek has been engraving dies for ancient reproduction coins for decades that I know of. Most of the Antiquanova reproductions made using Sousek’s die are done in silver, but they have also made stamped tin medals. They seem to be responsible in using an incuse maker’s mark, which is far harder to remove from a coin that a raised maker’s mark, which can be simply removed with a graver and smoothed away, but I’m sure a lot of their coins end up getting misrepresented or doctored to remove the maker’s mark. As with most modern reproductions, the style is always a bit off, but it can come very close to the authentic thing. Sousek seems to have a pretty good eye for the style of ancient coins, and a lot of talent as an engraver, and some of his reproductions can be pretty convincing, especially if modified by someone unscrupulous to add fake wear and remove the mark.
