Nikaia in Bithynia, 198 AD., Caracalla, Dichalkon, unlisted.
Nikaia in Bithynia, Caracalla, 198 AD.,
Æ15 / Dichalkon / 1/4 Assarion (?) (14-15 mm / 1,57 g),
Obv.: ANTΩN[...] AYΓ , laureate head of Caracalla right.
Rev.: NIKAIEΩN CEOY{HP}EIA , brabeion = Greek prize basket, meant to hold prize objects for the victors (also called "prize crown" "prize urn") with one palm branch.
Waddington, Rec. Gén 1/3, - .

"Severeia of the Nicaeans" In the late 3rd century a complex cycle of at least fifteen games and associated religious festivals is attested for Nicaea, honoring Dionysus the founder, Apollo Pythius, and various emperors from Augustus to Gallienus. Read along with the very young portrait of Caracalla as Augustus, the legend and type can be taken to indicate that Nicaea sponsored a grand series of festivals to celebrate the joint elevation of Caracalla to Augustus and Geta to Caesar in 198 AD.
