Emperor Äồng Khánh (19 February 1864 – 28 January 1889), born Nguyá»…n Phúc Ưng Ká»·, also known as Chánh Mông, was the ninth emperor of the Nguyá»…n Dynasty of Vietnam. He reigned three years between 1885 and 1889.
Äồng Khánh was the eldest son of Prince Nguyá»…n Phúc Hồng Cai. As his uncle, Emperor Tá»± Äức, had no children, Äồng Khánh was adopted and made the Duke of Kiên Giang. Äồng Khánh came to the throne in the aftermath of the events starting from 4 July 1885, when court regents Nguyá»…n Văn TÆ°á»ng and Tôn Thất Thuyết took the young Emperor Hà m Nghi from the Purple Forbidden City of Huế, and took him to the mountains as the figurehead of a revolutionary movement against the French. To take away the legitimacy of Hà m Nghi, the French enthroned Prince Ưng Ká»· - Hà m Nghi's elder half brother. He took the era name of "Äồng Khánh".
