This is seems to have been quite an extensive series of bronzes. The coins are known either without control marks, or with various combinations of letters and monograms on the obverse beneath the neck of Zeus and/or on the reverse, below the wreath.
"Lloyd T" : "The second century bronze civic issues of Elis were struck with various combinations of letters and monograms on the obverse beneath the neck of Zeus and/or on the reverse, below the wreath. They have been traditionally dated to the second century BC. The BMC dates this series to after 191 and SNG Copenhagen places the coins in the period 146-130 BC. Some evidence for the dating of the series is provided by the construction fill from beneath South Stoa II in the Agora in Athens. This fill contained a specimen of this Elis issue, identified as MΣ-295 (referenced as Kroll, Agora, 752). South Stoa II was built circa 140 BC, which means that all the coins in the underlying fill have to predate the construction. On this basis dating to around the middle of the second century BC is reasonable. FA-ΛEI-ΩN (FALEION), spelt out on the reverse of this coin, roughly translates from the local dialect into “belonging to, or of the Eliansâ€. This was abbreviated to F-A on most of the issues from the Olympic precinct."
