from wikipedia: Hagen-Haspe is a borough of the city of Hagen in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located in the valley of the Ennepe at the confluence of the Hasper. Haspe was raised to the rank of a town in 1873.
As of 1911, Haspe was located on the railway from Düsseldorf to Dortmund, ten miles north-east of Barmen by rail. Its industries included iron foundries, rolling mills, puddling furnaces, and the manufacturing of iron, steel, and brass wares and of machines.
Near Haspe Friedrich Harkort (February 22, 1793 - March 6, 1880) was born on Gut Harkorten. He was known as the "Father of the Ruhr region," was an early prominent German industrialist and pioneer of industrial development in the Ruhr region.
In 1819, he founded the first industrial workshop at Castle Wetter. An early proponent of railroads, he proposed the construction of a railway line from Cologne to Minden in 1825, which eventuated as the Cologne-Minden trunk line, completed in 1847. In 1826 he built a small test track, as a monorail following a design of the Englishman Henry Robinson Palmer. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedrich_Harkort
